  • 400g yams
  • 2 cloves of crushed garlic
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 tsp of curry powder
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp dessicated coconut
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds (optional)
  • 150ml cream
  • 1 1/2 cups of chicken stock


  1. Melt butter and fry onion, garlic, curry powder, cumin seeds and coconut for 5 minutes, until nicely browned
  2. Add whole yams, chicken stock and simmer for 25-30 minutes until yams are soft
  3. Blend with a stick mixer
  4. Add cream to give your soup its desired thickness and serve with a little spring onion on top and perhaps broccoli? Or roasted cashew nuts?
