Ingredients

  • 3 cups of milk
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 1/3 cup of flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 50g butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 3 bananas

Method

  1. In a large saucepan slowly heat milk until it starts to boil
  2. In another saucepan combine sugar, flour and salt
  3. Slowly mix heated milk into the sugar, flour and salt
  4. Stir continuously on medium heat until it thickens, approx 2-5 minutes
  5. In a small bowl whisk the egg yolks until slightly beaten
  6. Slowly stir egg yolks through heated milk mixture
  7. Blend bananas until smooth and mix in melted butter and vanilla
  8. Mix banana mixture through the heated milk. It is ready to be served if you like custard steaming hot on ice cream or with chocolate cake. Or,…
  9. Let mixture sit until it turns luke warm
  10. Pour into containers and chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours to partially set
  11. Delicious served cold with whipped cream and cocoa sprinkled on top
